I Heart Matchstick Quilting

I just pulled this off of the longarm and took a quick snapshot just before sunset. I couldn't wait to share...

Berrylicious

A few weeks ago, I purchased a Berrylicious bundle from Pile O' Fabric.  Seriously, all of my favorite colors!
ggg20141121_01
I also picked up the strip-set Bloc Loc ruler.  I watched the video and knew that it would be really useful to me.
ggg20141121_02
It is so easy to use and makes sub cutting strips much easier.  No more need to line up a WOF strip to the lines on the cutting mat!  The seam slips in the ditch on the ruler, and it is lined up and ready for cutting.

I have enough fabric to make a small quilt, but I decided to make a pillow cover.  I am thinking that I will try matchstick quilting with various shades of pinks and purples.  What do you think?

Golden Quilt

This week I had the pleasure of quilting this beautiful quilt by Barbara DeLaney.  Can you believe this is only the second quilt she has pieced?
ggg20141120_01
Barbara's use of color is absolutely stunning.  I wish the camera would capture the golden sheen on this quilt; It absolutely shines!
ggg20141120_02
I love the contrast of the purple and gold.  It's a personal favorite combination of mine, and the pop of bright blue is just gorgeous!  I used Iscacord thread in Gold 0704.  The spool looks yellow, but my instincts were correct, and the thread melted into all the colors of the quilt.  A simple all-over meander design really makes all of the fabrics shine.

Barbara, thank you so much for letting me quilt for you.  I can't wait to see what you have next!

Quilting Memory Quilts

Kay Kennedy made two gorgeous memory quilts.  After she finished making the quilts, she asked me to machine quilt them with an all-over meander design.
ggg20141113_03
I love this quilt, and I especially love how Kay used the blue minky along the border.  The thread blends into the minky so only the texture of the stitching can be seen.
ggg20141113_04
I straight stitched in the center star.  Kay did a great job designing by offsetting the star.
ggg20141113_01
Kay also made a second quilt with the same fabrics from the first quilt.  Wonderful use of scraps!  Never waste a good shirt, right?
ggg20141113_02
On the back of this quilt is this wonderful and plush minky. Seriously, this stuff is lush!  Whoever receives this quilt will be wrapped up in bear fur!  As with the other minky fabric, I love how only the texture of the quilting shows.

Thank you so much for letting me quilt your precious quilts Kay!

Social Tote

My sewing area is much more organized today with the addition of this lovely Social Tote designed by Carolyn Friedlander.
ggg20141105_01
I used essex linen, some Riley Blake fabrics, and of course those gorgeous creatures came from Art Gallery Fabrics Utopia.
ggg20141105_03
The pattern was easy to follow. Every step was very clear. When it came to the binding, I decided to my own thing. I regret that now because mine came out wonky.
ggg20141105_04
And this is a really easy way to carry notions around. Whether I need them at my sewing machine, the longarm, or a sewing class, I can now just grab them all at once.

The Start of A New Social Tote

My sewing room is in desperate need of some organization.  With some beautiful fabrics pulled from my stash, I think I will make a social tote this week.
ggg20141103_01
Can you tell that I like Art Gallery fabrics, especially the new Utopia line?
ggg20141103_02
That deer, elk, moose, or caribou (whatever it is) will be prominently placed on Carolyn Friedlander's Social Tote.

Lucky for you, the Fat Quarter Shop is giving 20% off on all Art Gallery Fabric! Yahoo! Time to go stock up. Use code AG2014.
