July Quilty Finishes

The Sand Drift quilt is almost complete. I will add some sashing and a border of triangles to finish it off. (My July ALYoF goal can be found here.)



I'm beginning to write the pattern for this quilt, and all should be done by the end of August. Perfect timing, I think, for my first blogiversary! 

Is it okay to be totally infatuated with your own design? I hope so. I can't stop staring at this quilt!



I had the same problem with all these HSTs too. They sat on my table for days because they were just too pretty as a stack.



It's a good thing that I did stop daydreaming and actually piece the HSTs and flying geese together. I am thrilled with the results.
I also taught a good friend to quilt this month. My friend wanted to make two baby quilts. I told her that most people begin by sewing bibs and burp rags. She'll make an excellent quilter...she dove right into making quilts! 


I estimated that two strip quilts would take us four hours to make. We were going to have these done in one afternoon. Ha! Ha! Ha!

I have a renewed respect on how much time is required to make even the simplest of quilts. Three four-hour sessions later (total of 12 hours), we had the two strip quilts completed!

I am no longer disappointed that it has taken me all summer to finish the Sand Drift quilt. This takes time!

Good things come slow.

Sand Drift Quilt Progress and FAL Q3

I'm getting really excited about my new Sand Drift pattern. I finished 4 blocks, and I have 5 more to make. When I finished the fourth block, I couldn't help myself, I had to see what they looked like together...

And the pile of trimmings was looking lovely and needed to be photographed. Why not!

I still hope to have this top completed by the end of July. I'm sure the quilt will be completed by the end of FAL Q3. My first Sand Drift block was 18-inches square. However, I decided on making the quilt with 20-inch blocks. The math was just easier. So now I have a leftover 18-inch block which will become a matching throw pillow for FAL Q3. There is also another quilt design brewing in my head. When the gingers start school in 4 weeks and 5 days (who's counting?), then I should have plenty of time to make that design reality too for FAL Q3.

Wednesday WIP

Arizona from Art Gallery plus some pretty Kona Cotton colors plus quilt design in EQ7 equals one beautiful 18-inch block. I can't wait to make more. I'm busy, busy, busy!

My goal for July is to finish this quilt top or at least have nine blocks sewn together. The sashing may have to wait until August. Wish me luck!
My goal for FAL Q3 is to complete this quilt!
