Finishes For June

This month certainly went by in a blink of an eye. Blogging takes a back seat during the summer months. So sad, but my little gingers must be the priority during the long days. And long days they have been.

Here are my sewing acheivements for the month of June...

The Aeroplane bag is complete! I will do a full blog post with more pictures soon. This bag deserves it's own post for sure, but for now, a sneak peek will have to suffice.

I'm all caught up with my Gypsy wife blocks. These blocks make my design wall G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!

I didn't schedule much for June, and I did accomplish everything I set out to finish. Whew, thank goodness!  I even bound my sister-in-law's chicken quilt, but I gave it back before taking pictures. You'll have to take my word on that. :) Binding with flannel fabric was no fun, and I will stick with quilting cottons as binding in my own quilts. I was happy to give the chicken quilt back.

June ALYoF Post is here.
FAL Q2 goal post is here.

June Goals

A Lovely Year of Finishes

I found the perfect fabric to make the Aeroplane Bag by Sara Lawson at sewsweetness.com. I've been waiting (im)patiently for this bundle! I ordered it, and it will be on my doorstep this week.

So, this is my goal for June. I can't wait to show it to you.

For June, I will also bind my sister-in-law's chicken quilt, and I will get all caught up on the Gypsy Wife blocks. Behind the scenes, I will be a crazy quilt designer lady.

Happy June and Happy Stitching,

What you should know about me...
  • I was taught to quilt via YouTube, Craftsy, and all the lovely blogs out there on the web.
  • I stitch on a Juki TL2010Q. I also own a Kenmore something or other.
  • My favorite color is red. Some days it changes to a random shade of blue-green.
  • I started quilting because I fell in love with free-motion-quilting.
  • I quilt my own quilts on an HandiQuilter Sixteen that was given to me by my husband's awesome cousin. It was barely working when we got it due to fire damage, but we fixed it up, and now it holds the name 'Big Smokey'.
  • I use Aurifil thread for piecing and Isacord thread for quilting.
  • My favorite fabrics are from Art Gallery Fabrics.
  • I love to design quilt patterns.
  • My husband and I are pilots, and we own a small airplane.
  • My quilt style is modern-scrappy-patchwork. Let's just say that my style is evolving. I also love to foundation paper piece.
  • I wish I could buy more fabric from Liberty of London, Cloud 9, Birch, and Oakshott.
  • I am looking forward to the release of Acorn Trail by Birch, Arizona by Art Gallery, Emmy Grace by Art Gallery. Can you tell I like fabric with a nature theme?
  • My favorite movie is Frozen. I've watched it over 50 times with my girls. I might as well embrace it and "Let it go".
  • My favorite time to sew is during afternoon nap time. Unfortunately, I don't get a nap.
  • My house is terribly unkempt. I would rather be sewing. I strive for sanitary, but certainly not spotless.
  • I plan to start selling patterns next fall. I'm designing now, and I hope to have at least 3 patterns on Craftsy.com in September.
  • My favorite shows are Seinfeld and The Office. I Tivo the reruns, and I watch them just about every night.
  • I am married to my best friend, the best guy in the whole world. He is also the smartest and incredibly handsome too. I call him Mr. Ginger here on the blog, and he built my quilt frame for the HQ16. We have two adorable daughters who are gingers (ages 3 and 6), and 'Good Golly', I love them so much!
  • Tomorrow I turn 34 years-old! :)
Free Pattern
Here is a free foundation paper piecing pattern I recently designed (just click on the picture to download)...

Quilty Tip
If you have made it down this far. Thank you! Here is a tip for you. Those Clover Wonder Clips are fantastic! Did you know that they have a quarter inch mark? Use Wonder Clips instead of pins to line up your blocks!

This makes foundation paper piecing so much easier! I call it the cheat and check method. Open up your pieces and verify everything is aligned the way you like it. Perfect! Go stitch it up!

Question For You
I am thinking of updating my longarm machine with the Quilter's Cruise Control. My HQ16 is currently unregulated, and I have hit a quilting wall with it. The Handiquilter stitch regulator is $2K plus I would have to update the computer pod for another $500. The Quilter's Cruise Control, however, is $500 total and works with my machine. I don't think I have to update the pod, maybe I still do. Do you have any recommendations for me? I'm not seeing too many reviews online. If you have used the Quilter's Cruise Control, then I would love to hear about your experiences.

Month of May

Not enough sewing is happening at the ginger house. The month of May went by far too quickly. I was busy, but not with sewing related activities. Can you relate? Please tell me your sob story so that I can commiserate with you.

I am starting to work on my gypsy wife blocks. They are so fun!

This blog update is in lieu of the New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop hosted by Beth at Plum and June. I'm so excited to be a part of my first blog hop ever! There has been so much work going on behind the scenes. There are going to be a lot of great, newish quilting blogs to visit. I hope to see you there, or here, where? Here, below...

Plum and June

Don't forget, I did finish a project this month. Albeit, it's a small project.

The notebook cover was much loved by the recipient. This next one will go to Ginger #1's teacher.
